It's time to talk about beer.
Ballpark Beer

Now that baseball season is upon us, what will you be drinking at the game?

Not including the usual fizzy yellow macros we all know and loathe, here's the list at the Cincinnat Reds' Great American Ball Park:

ON TAP:
(AB) Bud American Ale
(AB) Shock Top Belgian Wheat
BJ's (Chicago) Blonde, Nutty Brewnette & Jeremiah Red
Christian Moerlein OTR Ale & Helles
Guinness & Harp

BOTTLES:
Amstel Light
Heineken
Corona
Sam Adams Lager & Light
Guinness & Harp
Great Lakes Burning River APA & Dortmunder
Mt.Carmel Amber Ale (nice local micro, est'd 2005)
Stella Artois
Flying Dog
Left Hand Pilsner
Landshark

(Thanks to the Reds PR dept for the list. I suggested they put the beer list on the GABP website, as they do list all the food concessions. We'll see what happens!)

Last season, various BarrelHouse beers were available as well, though they're not on this year's list. How could they not have Redd Legg Ale? I guess I'll find out when I get to a game.

I'm glad I didn't get tickets for Opening Day this year, temperatures around 40F, fans were dressed more for a football game, and I heard reports of freezing rain in the stands!

Play Ball!

The Reds are desperate enough to get asses in the seats to do dollar hot dogs occasionally.

For dollar beers, try the minor leagues.  In this area, we have a Frontier League baseball team (Florence Freedom) and an International League hockey team (Cincinnati Cyclones, last year's Kelly Cup winner) both of which do dollar beers at least once a week.  Sure, it's fizzy and yellow, but it is dollar beer!

CORRECTION:  Cyclones are in the East Coast Hockey League.  Int'l league team left town 2 yrs ago.   and they didn't do dollar beer!

Cool!  (Marlins' AAA, isn't it?)  Minor-league ball is, in a lot of ways, better than major-league, they do so much more to sell tickets.  I'm just across the Ohio River from Cincinnati, and I do enjoy a Reds game now and then.  But, in addition to the aforementioned Florence Freedom, the Reds' AAA Louisville Bats are just 110 miles away, with a Bluegrass Brewing brewpub in the shadow of Louisville Slugger stadium (many BBC brews available in the stadium).  Reds' low-A Dayton Dragons are only about 60 miles from here, plenty of good beer, and some really motivated players.  I'd say both minor-league stadiums are a better baseball experience than the major-league Great American Ball Park.

Reds' fans are just now learning that you don't run on (#2 catcher) Ryan Hanigan.  Hell, I knew that 2 years ago!

Enjoy!

The Orioles have a Mico Brew stand that serves some locals.  Wild Goose IPA, Clipper City Gold and Fordham Copperhead Ale.  Also being served on the Micro stand was heineken.  The regulars are around with the Macros being sold in the stands.  Guinness, Harp and Smithwicks have their own stand up the way from the Micro stand.  It is still too pricey to make a drinking night out of it.  But to grab a Wild Goose IPA and a hot dog on a warm night with a ball game going on, it isnt Iowa- it is heaven.

And apparently this year, they have Flying Dog Old Scratch, which is a local too.  (yes, it is based in Colorado, but all of the brewing is done in Maryland)

Got a chance to check out the new Yankee Stadium two weeks ago. The have all the basic beers on tap; bud, bud light, miller lite, and coors. We did not get a chance to explore much due to the massive amouts of people. There are a lot of random bars in the joint however. I will have a better report on my next visit. My girlfriend and I plan on going very early to seek out beer we actually want to drink!

Busch Stadium, St. Louis, I know this will be an enormous surprise, but Bud and Bud light, lots of bud and bud light. Not much else, one or two michelob products, but not much else. We were in the not so cheap seats (a box), but really, nothing much was available.

But the good news is that at the Louisville Bats stadium (minor league), Browning's Brewery is open again. Always good beer.
If I recall correctly, and I rarely do anymore, there was also a brewpub in Oklahoma City's baseball stadium that served a fairly decent pint, but it's been three or four years since I went through there.

just went to an A's game this past weekend and had one sierra nevada and one boston lager. seemed to be the best options for what i had to work with. bud, miller, kona, guiness, harp and a few others.

they had better selections at the giants games, but they have hands down the most expensive beer in baseball which i just read an article about...http://www.nbcdfw.com/news/sports/Giants-Have-Most-Expensive-Beer-in-Baseball-52387597.html

am surprised you have all those selections in cincinnati and baltimore!

That Cincy beer list was a pleasant surprise; I really wasn't expecting much when I e-mailed the Reds' PR dept. Their reply included not only the beer list, but where to find the concession stands with the best variety! I give the Reds credit for fan relations, at least.

Wish they could win more often than once a week, though!

I wish there was a ballpark near by. We do have a minor league baseball team but I am guessing they are serving macros.
