The Hairy Eyeball from Lagunitas Brewing Company in Petaluma, CA is an America Strong Ale. The Eyeball pours out a deep brown in color with reddish hues, nice clarity and a tan, fairly tightly woven head. Malty molasses on the nose with some dried dark fruit and a little hoppiness. In the mouth the first flavor is a malty molasses coated sweetness with just a scooch of hop bitterness biting at the tongue. This is followed by some spice and shades of vanilla. Medium boddied. A slight oil and cream to the mouthfeel. Decent carbonation. Sheets of lacing. The finish has some lovely dried fruit qualities balanced with hops and malty sweetness. A very nice beer albeit with a funky name!

This is a seasonal beer available from January to March.

12 ounce bottle, 8.70% ABV

There is a good article on MainStreet about seasonal beers. here is a short excerpt from it:

"Why the surge in seasonal offerings? The short answer: It makes good marketing sense. Breweries gain steady income from year-round varieties while also wowing regular customers with limited releases and hopefully attracting curious newcomers, too."

The article goes on to talk about a little history as to why there are seasonal beers and what is made for each season. Well, put together article. You can read the full article here.
